Brett Kavanagh: senators hold crucial first vote on the next nomination – live updates | us news | The Guardian

One of the most important members of the Senate Republican Susan Collins, is expected to vote yes on the cloture motion today – but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will vote in support of Cavani.

Some insiders refer to support cloture, a procedural vote that would end debate about Kavan, the equivalent of the support of Cavan in the final Senate vote.

But this hasty conclusion to draw.

It looks like we will find out whether Collins supports Kavan or not the Senate at 3 pm.

If cloture passes – Republicans can afford only one defection if all Democrats oppose the test – then the final vote on the nomination will be held over the weekend, likely on Saturday.

I said @SenatorCollins is expected to vote yes on cloture. Is likely to announce how it will vote on final confirmation by 3p Senate floor. #Cavan
